18 in-depth topics: passing, defending, Dream Team, formation, progression, set pieces and more.

Getting started

Learn the game, not just the buttons

Begin with the in-game tutorials and one low-pressure match. Keep the same controller layout, camera and pass-assist configuration long enough to build muscle memory.

Exercise: Build five safe passes across your midfield before attempting a through ball.
Game mechanics

Body orientation and the first touch matter

Balance, stronger foot, player facing, contact, ball speed and open lanes influence the result. Settle a difficult pass before attempting a shot or a sharp turn.

Exercise: Receive five passes facing different directions, then measure how quickly you can release each ball.
Advanced commands

Stunning actions, Match-up and Smart Assist

Stunning shots and passes require space to prepare; the defender can block while the animation starts. Match-up helps guard a passing or shooting lane. Smart Assist can modify actions; confirm your mode permits it.

Exercise: Compare five ordinary shots with five stunning shots and note preparation time.
Dribbling & skills

Beat opponents with rhythm

Release sprint in crowded spaces, make a short directional movement and accelerate into the opening. Right-stick feints require the relevant command type, player skills and timing.

Exercise: Win a 1v1 with stop-and-go, then repeat using a simple direction change.
Passing

Open lanes with triangles

A short pass draws a defender; a return pass and third-man run creates a fresh angle. Through balls work best when a forward is already moving into space.

Exercise: Make a five-pass triangle and switch play only when the opposite side is open.
Shooting & finishing

Choose shot type, aim and power

Check balance, shooting foot, nearest defender, goalkeeper and the expected ball trajectory. Avoid defaulting to maximum shot power in the box.

Exercise: Take ten shots from the same location and record misses caused by power, balance or blocks.
Defending

Keep your centre-backs in shape

Use a midfielder to slow the ball carrier. Switch early, mark the dangerous pass and use Match-up rather than pulling a centre-back out. Sliding tackles carry extra risk.

Exercise: Defend five counterattacks without chasing with your centre-backs.
Tactics & formations

Build a first plan and a backup

4-3-3 creates wide passing triangles; 4-2-1-3 gives a central attacking midfielder. Test roles alongside the team shape. v6.0.0 introduced Fluid Formation and Overload.

Exercise: Set separate shapes for attack and defence; check your coverage after turnover.
Player styles

Read both attacking and defensive styles

In v6.0.0, player styles were separated into attacking and defensive categories and new defensive styles arrived. Match each card’s role and position proficiency to your plan.

Exercise: Compare two defensive midfielders by positioning, interception skills and their behaviour in three matches.
Dream Team

Build a coherent squad, not an overall list

Look for a reliable goalkeeper, complementary centre-backs, a holding midfielder, playmakers and finishers. Review training points, available skills, boosters and substitutions.

Exercise: Replace a higher-overall player with a tactical fit; compare spacing and chance creation.
Current systems

Know what changed in the new season

v6.0.0 added Custom Tournament, Dynamic Volley, Overload, Fluid Formation and revised playing styles; some individual instructions were removed. Check current menus before following an older video.

Exercise: Open Game Plan and locate the current formation and role options.
Player selection

Select players for the actual role

Goalkeepers benefit from suitable awareness and reach; centre-backs need defensive awareness and aerial ability; defensive midfielders need positioning and interceptions; attacking roles demand the right movement and finishing.

Exercise: Compare two cards at the same position by key stats, styles and skills, not overall alone.
Training plan

Use a measurable 20-minute session

Spend five minutes each on passing, finishing, dribbling and defending. Keep a short log of errors; review the same metric over several matches.

Exercise: Record pass completion, clear chances and poor defensive switches for a week.
Online matches

Adapt to input delay methodically

Use a stable connection where possible and pause background downloads. If inputs feel delayed, simplify late decisions; do not assume a particular server is responsible without diagnostics.

Exercise: Compare two friendly matches with the same settings; change one variable at a time.
Set pieces

Plan the target and second ball

For corners, select a clear target and prepare to defend the clearance. On free kicks, inspect wall and keeper positions. For penalties, practise aim and a repeatable approach.

Exercise: Try five near-post and five short corners; count useful second balls.
Settings

Change one setting at a time

Try camera, pass assistance, player-switching and Smart Assist individually. A stable setup makes it easier to recognise actual progress.

Exercise: Save your control configuration and review it after updates.
Common mistakes

Break one bad habit per session

Constant sprint, overcommitting centre-backs, forcing through balls, blind stunning shots and chasing overall ratings all reduce control. Fix one pattern instead of everything at once.

Exercise: Track one recurring error over the next three matches.
Glossary

Common terms explained

Match-up: controlled defensive tracking. Sharp Touch: pushing the ball into open space. Stunning Shot/Pass: special actions requiring preparation. Fluid Formation: separate attack and defence shapes.

Exercise: Find each command in the current in-game Command List or Game Plan.
